Mark Twain once said, 'Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you, too, can become great.'
Isn't it amazing how keeping a positive attitude can be influenced by the people around you? Of course in the end, it's up to you whether or not you keep a positive attitude or not, but it sure is much easier when you are around people that believe in you.
A positive attitude is so important because it helps you stay motivated and encouraged in whatever it is that you are doing in life. One of the biggest killers of a positive attitude is when someone tells you something that belittles you and makes you feel that you are incapable of the task in front of you. Sometimes it's not easy to get away from these types of people because they could be co-workers, "friends", or even family.
If you have so-called friends that always seem to put you down and don't believe in you, then it's time to get some new friends. Your time on this earth is too short to be put down by someone who probably isn't doing much with their life anyway. If you can't totally stop being around these kinds of people, co-workers, family, etc., then minimize the amount of time that you are around them.
Once you make a decision to stop surrounding yourself with these types of people, start to surround yourself with people that are able to see the true qualities that you have on the inside of you. When great people begin to tell you that you are also great, your attitude in life will begin to change. Eventually you will have such a positive attitude about yourself that even if someone comes to you and tells you something belittling, it doesn't affect you in the slightest.
