Continue Challenging Yourself

by Leslie Gail

How often do you really challenge yourself? This could be in your career, personal challenges, physical challenges, or any combination. Last year I was persuaded by a good friend to sign up for a triathlon. I loved the experience and was very proud of my commitment to the process. Well, this same friend just asked me if I would be interested in signing up for the MS150 with her. This event takes place in June and consists of riding my bike for 150 miles over two days. This would be a huge undertaking in which I would push and train myself harder than I ever have before. For me, life is not supposed to be a complacent and safe ride. My father has always challenged himself and explored new things, a wonderful quality that I hope to continue in my own life. I think it is important to raise the bar and surprise yourself every now and then with achievements that you would not normally give yourself the opportunity to try. Life becomes very hum drum and monotone if you don't venture out every now and then. I would love for each and every one of you to take a good look at your life this week and determine if there are opportunities to push yourself a bit. If you feel the desire to spice things up a bit and try new things, there is never a better time than the present.

ACTION TIPS FOR THE WEEK:

1. Is life monotone?
Is your life monotone? Is there little excitement or challenge? Do you feel an urge to try new things? Are you becoming restless? Admitting this is the first step in embarking on new things. Just ask yourself if you are ready to push yourself a bit.

2. What is calling out to you?
Have you always dreamed of running a marathon? Have you thought about tackling a fourteener? Are you itching to put your name in the running for a promotion? What have you considered in the past that you have never given much thought to? Write down some ideas to get you started. Now place a star next to the one that is calling out to you the loudest.

3. Move forward
Now that you have an idea of the challenge that you might want to embark on, it's time to take action. A goal is pointless if you don't detail and move forward with the action portion. Even if it is baby steps, you are doing something that you weren't doing before. So, don't beat yourself up if you don't move at a fast pace. Just list the steps that you would need to take to begin your journey.
