The Top 11 Myths About Success That Keep You Imprisoned

by Michelle Casto

1. If It Is To Be, It's Up to Me
An often quoted sentiment that is off-base. At first glance, it seems to make logical sense. You cannot wait for someone else to do the work that is yours to do. You certainly must be responsible for what you do, however, you cannot get where you want to go by being the lone ranger---remember even he had Tonto. The key is to allow yourself to be supported and ask for help when you need it.

2. Success Comes in a Book or a Box
Great information by great thinkers can be found in a book or a box, but that is as far as it goes. The key is to apply what you have learned to your unique situation, and through active experimentation, create your own formula for success.

3. If I Just Visualize Enough, All My Dreams Will Come True
Visualization is a powerful process that helps to bring clarity into your mind. Having vision is important. The key is to raise your vibration to match what you want and take the right sequence of actions.

4. There is Something That Needs to Be Fixed
Many of us have gotten the idea that there is something inherently wrong with us that needs to be fixed. In truth, we are already creative, resourceful, whole, and holy, and everything we need we already have. The key is to reclaim it.

5. I Need to Work on My Weaknesses
Much energy is wasted on trying to over-correct areas of weakness. The key is simple, play to your strengths. Focus on what you do well and do more of that. Learn to delegate the rest.

6. The More Action I Take, the Better
Action taken for action sake will keep you on the merry go around of life, never reaching your intended destination. The key is to only take inspired action (s), the kind that comes from your higher self.

7. I Have to Eliminate My Ego
The ego has gotten a bad rap. This is rather ironic since everyone on the planet has one. Just like anything else in psychology, the ego has stages of development: narcissistic, integrated, and transcended. The key is to become self-aware enough to allow the ego to dissolve gently while letting your soul shine in its rightful place.

8. I Must Keep Up With All the Pertinent Information in My Industry
We live in an information-overloaded society and the trend seems to be speeding up, rather than slowing down. There is no possible way to know everything about everything. The Universe works on a "need to know basis" anyway, so why even try? The key is to believe in this idea and understand that you will be given exactly what you need when you need it.

9. I Know What I Want
You may think you have it all figured out and even think you know how to get it. What I have seen as a professional life coach is that most humans are not in touch with their heart of heart desires. What I mean is that your soul may have a completely different idea about what you want and need. The key is to realize your mind has limited perception, while there is something within you that truly knows.

10. Emotions Are to Be Managed
Emotions are one of our most powerful self-awareness tools. Every instance of pain or disappointment carries a message. For example, anger often alerts you to the fact that something is out of alignment with your personal values. It's been said that emotions are "energy in motion." The key is to get in touch with your emotion, feel it in the moment, and do something to help process what you are feeling--journaling, dancing, crying, praying, etc.

11. When ____________Happens, Then I Will Be Happy
Although happiness is a state of mind, many people wait until the big promotion, perfect mate, or rich bank account until they can "be happy." The key is to choose to be happy right here, right now--- even grateful--- for whatever experience you may or may not be having.
