Freedom: How to Feel Free in Your Life

by Gini Grey

What does freedom mean to you? What does it feel like? To me, freedom is the wind blowing through my hair, beckoning me with it. It's wild flowers growing on a barren patch of dirt along side a busy road. It's knowing that I am responsible only for myself and my chosen commitments. Knowing that nothing can get in my way and no one can prevent me from pursuing my dreams.

Ultimately freedom is much more than words can describe on this page. It's more of a state of being than any set of actions. It's the feeling of ease, joy and empowerment all wrapped into one. It waits patiently underneath all our shoulds, have-tos. When we touch into our own state of freedom, we experience a deeper sense of Self.

Reflect on these questions to gain insights:

* What does freedom feel like to you? Remember a time when you were feeling free or imagine this state now.

* What blocks you from feeling free? What supports you in feeling free?

* What would you need to do, let go of, or embrace in order to experience more freedom? (hint: go past the money, the job, putting the kids up for adoption and look at the states of being, such as replacing judgment, criticism, effort and resistance with such things as neutrality, ease, amusement and acceptance).

Try these inspiring ideas to bring more freedom into your life:

* Reflect over times in your life when you felt a sense of freedom. What was going on in your life? What values were you honouring? How did you view yourself and others? What else do you notice?

* Sit with your eyes closed, breathe, relax and find your center. From this place connect with the state of freedom that lies within you. Turn up the volume on it and let it flow throughout your whole body.

* Play with ways to bring this state of freedom into your daily activities. Practice relating to others from a state of freedom. Bring the energy of freedom into your work. Let freedom guide you in your life choices.
