Follow Your Purpose

by Gini Grey

Our purpose in life is whatever we make it. We may have an overall life purpose which we stay true to for a lifetime or it may change over time as we evolve and transform. Our purpose may involve a long term vision or it may be how we live day to day. However we define our purpose, knowing what it is helps us to stay on our path and in our integrity.

When we are aware of what our purpose is we have a set of guidelines to follow. This is much like having an inner compass to let you know what direction you are going in. If we stray from our purpose, we feel a sense of discomfort. This signals us to check in with ourselves and follow our truth. When we are aligned with our purpose we feel energized, strong and peaceful. We are less likely to feel scattered or get distracted by temptations or triggers. We know who we are, what we want and how we like to live our life.

Your purpose may be to follow your dreams, be of service to others or to live by a simple set of principles each day. Are you aware of your purpose and are you living in alignment with it?

Reflect on the questions to gain insight on your purpose:

* Do you have an overall life purpose? Is there something you feel is important to experience, achieve, express, be or accomplish in this life time?

* Do you have a daily purpose? Something you want to experience, feel or accomplish, or a way you want to greet and interact with others during the day?

* How would you define your purpose in terms of how you want to feel, what you want to experience, and what you want to receive from living your life? How would you define your purpose in terms of how you want to affect others, what you want to offer others and how you want to impact the world?

Try these inspiring ideas to find your purpose and follow it:

* Write down your current top ten values in life (i.e. creativity, honesty, kindness, connection, spirituality, ease, humour, service, educating, growing, etc.). Use these to help you define your purpose. Write a life purpose statement which gives you a guideline for how you want to live your life. Refer back to this anytime you are feeling lost.

* Every day when you get up, determine your purpose for the day. It may be a simple as living from a place of ease and amusement or it may more specific such as accomplishing a list of tasks. Use this to help you stay on track each day.

* Whenever you have a difficult decision to make or an uncomfortable situation to take part in, reflect back on your purpose and let it be a guide for your choices and how you interact with others and life's circumstances.
