3 Ground Rules You Must Set Before You Even Think About Trying To Break Any Habit

by Andy Thompson

First, let's define the word "habit."

According to the dictionary, a habit is an acquired pattern of behavior that has become almost involuntary as a result of frequent repetition.

Once a habit has a hold of you, it seems like the action is automatic, yet behind every habit stands a thought, choice and decision.

Think about that for a second. A thought. A choice. A decision.

If you ever hope to overcome the negative habits that are holding you back from living a richer more fulfilling life there are three ground rules you must commit to up front.

First, you must start to be honest with yourself and you must have a sincere commitment to make changes.

Next, you must develop a deep passion to rid yourself of old, unwanted habits.

Finally, you must be willing to try new strategies and give yourself permission to be more creative and resourceful in creating new behaviors.

Experts agree that in order to create any kind of lasting results you must first change the way you think before you change the way you act.

Overcoming negative, unwanted bad habits and creating new positive ones is not an overnight process, but it can happen very fast. Research shows in as little as 21 days you can replace long held, deeply entrenched bad habits for life.

Making these three commitments to yourself up-front puts your goals and dreams within reach. Remember: You deserve Joy, Love and Pleasure in your life, YOU are worthy.

The bottom line is that choice and not chance determines your future. The choices you make today will create your future.
